We have been buying directly from Artie for many years. We see her frequently at various Indian art events including IACA's wholesale show and Indian Market in Santa Fe. Artie comes from a three-generation tradition of Navaj jewelry making.
She was born on the Navajo reservation in Arizona as amember of the Towering House clan. Navajo culture is apparent in her art, inspired by her mother and grandmother, both of whom were Navajo weavers.
Artie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is assisted in her work by her two daughters, Desiree and Lei Lani.
For a while, Artie was creating stunning combinations of gold and silver jewelry, following on from a tradition of siversmithing that earned her praise and recognition in the world of authentic Native American jewelry.
Recently she has given up working with gold because of it's rising cost. Artie told us she wants her work to be affordable to all who love her jewelry and feels the high cost of gold prices too many people out of the market.
